High-speed rail offers special student fares starting at 50% off

Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) will launch a university student discount promotion from November 1 to December 27. During this period, passengers traveling in standard class reserved seats on selected off-peak THSR trains can enjoy a 50% or 70% discount. There are a total of 200 discounted trains per week, including 56 trains at 50% off and 144 trains at 70% off. Pre-sales start tomorrow (the 5th). University students nationwide can purchase tickets for specified trains and standard class reserved seats at THSR station ticket counters during the campaign period by presenting a valid student ID to enjoy the discount for designated time slots.

In addition, Taiwan High Speed Rail has adjusted its early-bird discount policy starting November 1. In addition to the existing 35% and 10% early-bird discounts, a new 20% early-bird discount will be added. For example, the lowest price for a standard class reserved seat on the Taipei–Zuoying route with a 35% early-bird discount is just NT$965. Early-bird discount tickets for November 1 onward will go on sale starting October 5. Passengers can book via the 24-hour THSR online reservation system, partner convenience stores, the voice reservation system, the mobile quick-ticketing service T Express, or at THSR station ticket counters and ticket vending machines during operating hours.

THSR stated that all three types of early-bird discount tickets are available for purchase starting 28 days before the train’s departure date and remain on sale until 8 days before departure. If 35% early-bird tickets sell out, 20% early-bird tickets will be offered earlier; if 20% early-bird tickets sell out, 10% early-bird tickets will be offered earlier.
