A one-day ecological tour of Aoju Wetland starts at just NT$200, and registration is now open.

Aoju Wetland is one of Taiwan’s large coastal wetlands featuring a complex ecosystem that includes marine, estuarine, marsh, lake, forest, and farmland environments. It is also an important habitat and stopover site for migratory and water birds along Taiwan’s southwest coast. On a typical day, it is home to various woodland birds, waterfowl, and resident species. As winter approaches, large numbers of migratory birds from the north arrive, making it the peak season for birdwatching and turning the area into one of Taiwan’s most famous birding spots. According to the latest survey this July, as many as 245 bird species across 52 families have been recorded here, including rare and protected species such as the black-winged kite, little tern, and black-faced spoonbill. To help the public learn more about the Aoju Wetland Forest Park, starting November 4, the Forestry Bureau will hold seven sessions of the “First Encounter with Aoju Wetland Forest Park” event, offering participants an eco-friendly travel experience that highlights environmental awareness while showcasing the beauty of Aoju.

The “First Encounter with Aoju Wetland Forest Park” events will be held on November 4, November 10, December 1, December 15, December 29, and next year on January 12 and January 26. Each session has a maximum capacity of 80 participants and requires a minimum of 15 to proceed. The activity takes place at Aoju Wetland Forest Park, beginning at 8:10 AM with a guided tour that concludes at 5:30 PM. The program also includes locally sourced, eco-conscious meals prepared by community cooks, as well as an in-depth visit to the wetland to observe migratory birds. The participation fee is NT$200 per person (covering transportation, guide fees, lunch, accident insurance, and more). Registration is now open on-site. Participants can fill out a registration form and then sign up and pay at the Leisure Section of the Chiayi Forest District Office.
