Local Cuisine Showdown: Vote Now for Taiwan’s Featured Group Meals

When traveling, besides enjoying scenic landscapes and cultural heritage sites, savoring local delicacies is also a key pursuit for travelers. To promote regional cuisine, the Tourism Bureau is hosting the “2012 Taiwan Group Meal Showdown” campaign from now until November 30. In addition to judges and mystery diners conducting on-site visits to the 144 shortlisted restaurants, the campaign will select the most representative restaurants in each city and county worth recommending to tourists, featuring dishes such as seafood, beef noodles, live fish, and chicken rice. The public can also vote online, with opportunities to win prizes such as tablets and air fryers.

The shortlisted restaurants are divided into three price tiers for separate voting: Value Meals (35 restaurants, under NT$2,500 per table), Premium Meals (52 restaurants, from NT$2,501 to NT$4,000 per table), and Deluxe Meals (57 restaurants, from NT$4,001 to NT$10,000 per table). The ingredients and featured dishes used by restaurants across cities and counties include Keelung squid, Taipei beef noodles, Taoyuan Shihmen live fish, Hsinchu pork meatballs, Taichung Dajia taro, Changhua rice pudding, Chiayi chicken rice, Tainan Qigu milkfish, Yilan kumquat, Hualien monkfish, and Matsu fried red yeast eel.

The top 10 from each price tier, totaling 30 restaurants, will be selected, with the final results expected to be announced in mid-December. Online voting has begun and will feature a two-stage lottery. Each person can cast up to 5 votes per day for different categories.
