Free registration for the Cycling Leisure Tour - Pingtung Bike Season

Riding a bicycle for travel has become a popular slow-paced leisure activity. In response, Pingtung County is holding the “2012 Pingtung Bike Season,” launching one cycling route each Sunday from November 18 to December 23 — a total of five free Sunday cycling experience events. The five routes cover agriculture, fishing, animal husbandry, Hakka culture, and indigenous cultural experiences, allowing visitors to explore local communities, visit historic sites, traditional Hakka settlements, and more, and appreciate the beauty of Pingtung’s countryside. Aside from the Pingnan Line, which has a limit of 100 participants, the other four routes each accommodate 200 people. The entire event is free, and registration is now open.

The five routes introduced this time are the Pingbei Line, Pingzhong Line, Hakka Village Line, Indigenous Line, and Pingnan Line. Each route has its own unique theme. For example, the Pingbei Line highlights agriculture, taking participants to visit herb farms and plantations; the Pingzhong Line focuses on agricultural and fishing experiences, including eating red bean pastries in Wandan and cycling around Dapeng Bay; the Hakka Village Line offers a taste of Hakka culture by visiting Liudui Zhongyi Shrine, Neipu Old Street, and Wulang Sago Water Old Street; the Indigenous Line takes travelers to the Laiyi and Taiwu townships’ tribal areas, where they can enjoy a cup of indigenous coffee and stroll around the Our Lady of Snows Shrine in Wanjin; and the Pingnan Line emphasizes mountain and sea experiences, starting with a “two-rail tour” via Taiwan Railways to Nanzhou Station, followed by a bike ride to explore the aquaculture and solar farming industries. Participants who join all five sessions and complete the full cycling routes not only get to enter a lucky draw for accommodation or hot spring vouchers but also have a chance to win one of 50 spots to join Pingtung County Magistrate Tsao Chi-hung on a cocoa tasting trip to Wanluan and Neipu.

Citizens unable to join the five scheduled cycling route events can still take part in five designated cycling spots arranged by the Tourism & Communications Department throughout the Bike Season. These include: November 19–24 at the Taiwan Cycling Association, November 26–December 1 at Wandan Elementary School, December 3–8 at Xishi Elementary School, December 10–15 at Taiwu Elementary School, and December 17–22 at Fanglaosu Elementary School. Each day, 50 bicycles and guide maps will be provided free of charge for independent cycling. Groups of 20 or more can arrange for a guided tour, and the first 50 visitors each day will receive a small gift. Event website: www.taiwanbike.org.tw.
