Christmas in Hong Kong: A Fairytale Christmas Market Debuts on December 1

Want to experience a festive Christmas market without traveling all the way to Europe? The enchanting European-style traditional Christmas market at Hong Kong’s heritage hotel Hullett House in Tsim Sha Tsui — which was a hit last year — will return again this year. This year’s Christmas market will be open free of charge from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm on December 1 and 2. Forty beautifully designed stalls in the courtyard will offer a wide array of classic toys, gifts, and fun stocking stuffers, as well as a variety of festive treats such as gingerbread cookies, puddings, stollen, and an assortment of cakes. There will also be activities including Santa Claus giving out gifts.

This year’s Christmas market has set a new record for the number of stalls. Visitors can shop to their heart’s content for a variety of champagnes and fine wines, such as Spanish and Swiss wines, mulled wine, French cheeses, truffles, foie gras, traditional French caramelized apples, Belgian handmade chocolates, olive oil, European farmhouse sausages, and smoked cured meats. There will also be handmade jewelry and glass ornaments, watches, ceramics, and hand-painted French figurines.

 

Additionally, amid a dreamy ambiance created by Santa Claus, local school choirs singing Christmas carols, and cheerful background music, guests can enjoy spiced hot wine, eggnog, hot chocolate, and roasted chestnuts. For light bites perfect for strolling and savoring, options include grilled cheese, French baguette, popcorn, ham rolls, as well as skewers of charcoal-grilled chicken, beef, and sausages.

During the event, parents can also bring their children to receive special Christmas gifts from Santa Claus. There will also be entertainment experiences on site, including a chocolate fountain and face painting — favorite activities among kids — as well as literary, musical, and dance performances. Moreover, visitors who spend a minimum of HK$300 at designated gift stalls can enjoy a complimentary Christmas nail art service. Throughout the event, international student organization AIESEC will showcase cultural gifts from Pakistan, Germany, Egypt, Taiwan, the Philippines, Canada, Indonesia, and India, highlighting the global diversity of Christmas traditions.
