Bangkok is one of the most vibrant and lively cities in Thailand to celebrate the New Year. Countless countdown events take place on every street and alley, but the largest and most exciting New Year’s gala is held along the Ratchaprasong road in the main shopping and commercial district. Renowned Thai singers take turns performing on stage, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. The crowd welcomes the new year together amid joyful countdown cheers.
In Chiang Rai, locals gather at the Chaloem Phrakiat Bell Tower in the city center to celebrate the New Year with traditional Lanna-style festivities, including releasing sky lanterns, enjoying light and sound shows, folk cultural performances, and magnificent fireworks. Meanwhile, in Udon Ratchathani Province, the countdown takes place at Amphone Khong Chiam, where tourists can admire dazzling lantern displays and parades along the Mekong Riverbank. Other cultural performances include the unique northeastern traditional Bai Si Ritual ceremony. The highlight of the event is heading to Thailand’s easternmost point, Pha Chana Dai, to release water lanterns and welcome the first sunrise of the new year. In Hua Hin, a favorite royal resort destination, residents and visitors alike will enjoy various live music performances, such as jazz, bossa nova, and easy listening, as they ring in the New Year countdown amid soft melodies.
