The Alishan Guesthouse has been fully renovated and will open to welcome guests on December 15.

The Forestry Bureau aimed to improve the accommodation quality for visitors to the Alishan Forest Recreation Area. In line with government policy and using the BOT model, the private Alishan Guesthouse Co., Ltd. funded the construction of the new building of the Alishan Guesthouse. Thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, the project was successfully completed this year (2012), and the official opening is scheduled for the morning of December 15.

Liao Yiguang, Director of the Chiayi Forest District Office, Forestry Bureau, stated that the Alishan Guesthouse was built during the Japanese colonial period as a two-story wooden structure. At that time, due to inconvenient transportation, it served as lodging for employees conducting business in Alishan. Later, as the forestry management model changed and in line with tourism development, it began to accommodate tourists. During the 1970s, it was expanded into a six-story reinforced concrete building.

 

In 2003, the Forestry Bureau, recognizing the building's aging condition and considering the historical significance of the original Alishan Guesthouse structure, planned its renovation and expansion under the principles of preservation and harmony with the original architectural landscape. Through ROT and BOT methods, the Alishan Guesthouse Co., Ltd. was granted the qualification to renovate, expand, and operate the property. The renovated Alishan Guesthouse now offers 141 rooms and 2 restaurants for tourist accommodation and dining. The guesthouse also features various service facilities including meeting rooms, a café, KTV, a fitness center, a family playroom, and a sky garden. Travelers planning to stay at the Alishan Forest Recreation Area can make room reservations in advance by calling the Alishan Guesthouse.
