Ring in the New Year at Sun Moon Lake with fireworks over the lake

This year’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holiday spans four days. To attract visitors, Nantou’s Sun Moon Lake countdown series kicks off at 14:00 on December 30 at the Shiangshan Visitor Center, with a performance by the Puli Youth Orchestra; at 15:00 on December 31 by Ita Thao Lake, there will be the “Hundred Pipes Music 102” and “Melodies of Mingtan, Good Fortune for the New Year” orchestral concerts. The countdown party begins at 20:00, featuring live art dance performances, hit songs from Super Idol stars, DJ shows, and a lakeside fireworks countdown to welcome the new year. Additionally, the Sun Moon Lake Good Ride ticket has been completely revamped, now offering seven tour routes that include not only lake buses and boat rides but also bike experiences and shopping discounts, allowing visitors to continue exploring Sun Moon Lake after the countdown.

For the new year, the Sun Moon Lake Good Ride ticket has been completely revamped. The “7-up Good Ride Ticket” includes seven routes covering key attractions around Sun Moon Lake, such as transfers between Sun Moon Lake, Taichung, Alishan, and Xitou, plus added-value experiences like biking, pottery making, and DIY woodworking. Enjoy diverse sights across the greater Sun Moon Lake area with one ticket and enjoy discounts. For example, the 330 NTD ticket package includes the cable car, boat ride, lake bus, Shuishe–Shiangshan bus, and shopping coupons. The original price was 656 NTD—nearly a 50% discount.

 

During the four-day holiday, visitors can take the “Taiwan Good Ride—Sun Moon Lake Line” to first visit Puli and explore the “2012 Nantou Flower Carnival,” which features 15 hectares of floral displays, including interesting flower mazes, happy flower fields, golden straw houses, vibrant flower landscapes, and purple lavender gardens. In the afternoon, head to Sun Moon Lake, attend the countdown evening on New Year’s Eve, take a boat ride on New Year’s Day, rent a bike to explore the Ki Trail, and visit temples to pray for peace in the new year. Enjoy flowers, countdowns, blessings, and wellness all in one trip.

 

In addition, the Sun Moon Lake Management Office has launched a “Google Street View” of the scenic area and the “i3-travel” app for real-time service, allowing visitors to check out street views, traffic conditions, and travel info from home or on the go. To facilitate transportation during New Year’s Eve, the management office has also arranged free shuttle buses along two routes—“Shuishe–Ita Thao” and “Zhongming–Ita Thao”—available from 16:00 on New Year’s Eve to 01:00 the next day.
