High-speed rail adds 2 extra northbound services on 1/1 to ease post-holiday return crowds; ticket sales now open

This year’s New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve holiday lasts four days, with many people planning to attend countdown events in other cities and take the high-speed rail back to work. Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation anticipates that tickets during the peak return period will be hard to come by, and estimates that even non-reserved seats will see large crowds. To ease congestion, the company will add two extra northbound trains on January 1, departing from Zuoying Station at 12:48 and 21:12 respectively. Ticket sales start today.

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation stated that during the New Year’s holiday transport period from December 28 to January 2, nearly 300,000 tickets have been sold, with most purchases concentrated during peak hours. Currently, southbound services between 17:00 and 21:00 on December 28, and 07:00 and 11:00 on December 29, as well as northbound services between 11:00 and 22:00 on January 1, have reserved seat occupancy rates exceeding 85%. Seats across various sections are gradually selling out, and passengers are advised to consider traveling during off-peak hours.

 

During the New Year’s transport period from December 28 to January 2, 2013, Taiwan High Speed Rail will add a total of 53 southbound and 51 northbound services, making 104 additional train services. Over the six days, 896 services will be offered, providing 886,144 seats, while maintaining non-reserved seating options. Passengers can use the high-speed rail partner convenience store ticketing points, the “Taiwan High Speed Rail T Express” mobile quick-ticketing and boarding service, as well as the online and phone booking systems to arrange their New Year’s and homecoming travel. Tickets can also be collected from over 9,800 24-hour partner convenience stores, allowing passengers to board directly upon arrival and avoid disrupting their schedules.
