The Hsinchu County Lantern Festival New Year’s Eve Event Features Performances by A-Lin and Wanfu Band

With just five days left until the New Year’s Eve gala kicks off, events across various cities and counties are gearing up. This year, in addition to the New Year’s celebration in Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County will host its own countdown event titled “Welcoming the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Hsinchu County,” which will take place from 6:00 PM on December 31 to 1:00 AM on January 1, 2013, at the square in front of the Hsinchu County Government building. The event will feature oldies music concerts, performances by famous pop idols such as A-Lin and the Wanfu Band, as well as a spectacular musical fireworks show. There will also be a lucky draw, with the grand prize being a car.

To welcome the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival, Hsinchu County has themed its New Year’s Eve event “Welcoming the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Hsinchu County.” On the day of the event, a lighting ceremony will be held to illuminate Guangming Sixth Road, marking the official start of the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival. As for the evening’s program, this year’s lineup includes hosts Kitty Wang, Xing Han, and Xu Ziyan, along with performances by various artist groups. The event will kick off with an “Old Romance” oldies music concert, featuring performances of classic hits by Hsieh Yu-wei, Kuan Tsung, Little Lily, Liu Fu-chu, and vocalists Lü Lili, Lin Huichen, Chen Chung-yi, and Wang Dian. This will be followed by performances from a range of artists including Shin (former lead singer of Shin Band), A-Lin, Wang Caihua, Wong Hong-seng, Hsiao Yu, Guan Shimin, the Wanfu Band, and 4ever. The evening will also include a county-government-sponsored countdown fireworks show. The New Year’s Eve program will be broadcast live on Dragon TV from 9:00 PM to 12:30 AM, and the public can also watch the live webcast via the Hsinchu County Government’s official website.

 

In addition to performances and the fireworks display, this year’s event will feature a lucky draw with prizes including cars, iPads 2, smartphones, and bicycles. The organizers will also distribute 5,000 glow sticks and 30,000 raffle tickets for attendees to exchange. Participants can exchange a single invoice from November to December 2011 for either a glow stick or a raffle ticket. All collected invoices will be donated in full to charitable organizations in Hsinchu County.

 

After enjoying the exciting New Year’s Eve event, the public can attend the New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony at 8:00 AM on January 1, 2013, in front of the Hsinchu County Government Square. This year’s ceremony will feature performances by local Hakka, indigenous, new immigrant, and sports groups. Additionally, starting at 7:00 AM, 2,000 limited-edition national flag scarves will be distributed in Hsinchu County, and all participants will receive a small national flag.
