The world’s top five New Year's Eve spectaculars featuring dazzling fireworks and luxury parties are kicking off in succession

With just three days left until the countdown to the New Year, destinations around the globe are rolling out diverse parties and events to welcome 2013. Global online hotel service provider Hotels.com has selected five unique New Year’s Eve shows. In addition to the world-renowned Sydney fireworks, there’s Berlin’s open-air party, Dubai’s highest fireworks display on Earth, a glamorous Miami nightclub countdown, and Edinburgh’s marathon-style New Year celebration — offering travelers a more diverse way to ring in the New Year.

Sydney is famous for its dazzling New Year’s Eve fireworks set against the backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, making it one of the first cities in the world to ring in the New Year. This year, Sydney has introduced a new twist to its celebrations by inviting revelers to download a special New Year’s app on their smartphones. Using the app, visitors can send congratulatory messages, which are then projected onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge, creating a collective light show. As 11,000 fireworks burst into the sky, the projections from visitors’ smartphones are integrated into the display, showcasing Sydney’s New Year’s countdown with a high-tech twist.

Berlin’s New Year’s celebration is one of the largest open-air parties in the world, attracting over one million visitors each year. The party takes place between Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column, stretching over a two-kilometer area. The event features a wide variety of music, bands, DJs, light and sound performances, along with international cuisine and drinks. Party-goers can also enjoy dance floors and bars. Best of all, no prior reservation is needed, and entry is free for all global visitors.

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa will host the highest fireworks display in the world to celebrate the New Year. The elaborately designed, spectacular firework show will be launched as the New Year arrives and will be broadcast on television worldwide. Additionally, there will be a stellar lineup of performers, including Snoop Dogg, Faithless, Gorillaz, and renowned electronic DJ Armand Van Helden, keeping the party going until 2013. The Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship will also be docked in Dubai, hosting a grand New Year’s Eve dinner.

 

Love champagne and caviar? Miami’s top nightclub “Wall” on South Beach will host a luxurious New Year’s Eve party with a ticket price of $700 USD (approximately NT$20,500). Guests can party alongside Swedish DJ sensation OTTO KNOWS and use their tickets to access several renowned nightclubs on South Beach, enjoying the most luxurious New Year’s countdown.

 

In addition, Edinburgh holds a three-day-long “Hogmanay” New Year’s celebration every year on New Year’s Eve. Hogmanay, which means the last day of the year in Scots, includes events such as torchlight processions, live band performances, open-air movie screenings, lively carnivals, fun triathlon races, and dog sledding competitions. Visitors can come to Edinburgh on New Year’s Eve to join over 80,000 people in celebrating in front of the iconic Edinburgh Castle — enjoying music, DJ sets, gourmet food and drinks, and spectacular fireworks, together ushering in the New Year with joy.
