Registration for the Hakka Festival Event "Six Stacks Cannon Fortress Attack" Begins – Top Prize of NT$150,000

The "Six Stacks Gong Arts and Culture Festival" Cannon Fortress Attack competition, one of the 2013 Twelve Major Hakka Festivals, is now open for registration until February 7. This year, a new event called the "Six Stacks Brave Soldiers Cannon Fortress Attack" has been added. Meanwhile, the top prize for the Yunxiao Cannon Fortress Attack competition includes NT$100,000 from the organizer plus an additional NT$50,000 from the Kaohsiung-Pingtung District Rotary Club, totaling NT$150,000.

The Hakka Affairs Office of Pingtung County Government stated that the "Six Stacks Gong Arts and Culture Festival" will be held on February 23 and 24 at the Pingtung County Stadium. This year’s Cannon Fortress Attack event includes five activities: Parent-Child Challenge, Beginner's Try (Cannon Fortress Experience), Castle Cannon Fortress Attack, Yunxiao Cannon Fortress Attack, and Six Stacks Brave Soldiers Attack. The Six Stacks Brave Soldiers Cannon Fortress Attack is divided into the Governmental Group and the International Group, with five participants per team. The former is open to teams from government agencies and schools, while the latter invites international participants, with no fewer than two foreign members per team.

The Kaohsiung-Pingtung District Rotary Club stated that to encourage participants to aim for the highest scores, the sponsored NT$50,000 will only be awarded to the team that successfully throws into the 12-meter-high cannon cage and wins first place. If no team manages to hit the 12-meter cannon cage, the prize will not be awarded. It is understood that in the past, the Yunxiao Cannon Fortress Attack, which offers the highest prize, saw no team hitting the 12-meter cannon cage for two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011, but in 2012, five teams succeeded. This year’s competition for the Yunxiao Cannon Fortress Attack is expected to be highly competitive.
