New Taipei City’s Happy Christmas Town Stays Open for Lunar New Year with Festive Lights Shining Until Lantern Festival

Since its launch on December 1, the “2012 New Taipei City Happy Christmas Town” has drawn crowds with its sparkling lights and amusement facilities, becoming a top choice for photo backdrops and attracting numerous idol dramas and advertising productions to shoot on location. In line with the festive spirit of love and warmth, the New Taipei City Government turned the teddy bears on the “Bear Tower” Christmas installation into hearts, launching a campaign where the public can exchange receipts for teddy bears to support underprivileged children and youth. Furthermore, New Taipei City will remain festive through the Lunar New Year—the city’s tallest Christmas tree and illuminated decorations will stay lit until February 24, the Lantern Festival.

This year’s Happy Christmas Town event in New Taipei City has been expanded, with the tallest Christmas tree in Taiwan, major streets in Xinzhuang Special District, and the overall lighting ambiance receiving widespread acclaim—over 420,000 photos have been shared online. As the year comes to a close, the New Taipei City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau collaborated with the Social Affairs Bureau to launch the “Happy Christmas Bear, Share the Love – Donate Receipts for Teddy Bears” campaign. By collecting 30 unclaimed unified invoices without the buyer’s ID printed, participants can exchange them for a Christmas teddy bear originally displayed on the “Bear Tower” at Banqiao Station Underground Mall. Starting at 10:00 AM on January 18 and 19, up to 300 teddy bears will be available daily at the first-floor lobby of the New Taipei City Government, with a limit of one per person per day. All donated receipts will be given to organizations including the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families’ New Taipei Municipal Datong Children’s Home, the Christian Gospel Mission’s New Taipei Municipal Loving Children’s Home, the New Taipei Municipal Rongguang Children’s Home, the Catholic Welfare Association’s New Taipei Yonah Home, and the Taiwan Pureland Education and Culture Foundation’s New Taipei Puxian Cihai Home.

To allow more people to continue enjoying the beautiful night scenery and romantic atmosphere of New Taipei City’s Xinzhuang Special District, the Christmas light displays will be extended until February 24, the Lantern Festival. The main areas include the New Taipei City Civic Plaza and surrounding roads, the section of Shuangshi Road and Minquan Road along Wenhua Road, and the section of County People’s Avenue from Minsheng Road to Guanqian East Road. The LED lights will continue to shine brightly from 5:30 PM to midnight. Additionally, Santa Claus, who continues to share joy under the Christmas tree, will don new attire to deliver a breathtaking light show for everyone in the new year.
