Europe’s Festival Extravaganza: The Nice Carnival Begins Its Revelry on February 15

The annual Nice Carnival (Carnaval de Nice) will kick off from February 15 to March 6. Known as Europe’s version of the Brazilian Rio Carnival, it was originally created to celebrate the approach of Lent. The 2–3 week-long festivities include carnival parades, flower parades, and illuminated night processions. During the event, strolling through the streets of Nice, you’ll be immersed in joyful festive vibes at every turn.

This year, over 150,000 colorful lights will adorn key venues such as the Promenade des Anglais, Avenue Jean Médecin, and Place Masséna. The carnival will feature float parades, giant puppet processions, and various performances, all brimming with elaborately costumed participants adorned with feathers, sequins, and faux jewels. Thousands of international musicians and dancers will also join in the celebration. The highlights of the carnival include the spectacular float parade series, the Battle of Flowers (Bataille de Fleurs), and the grand fireworks display at the closing ceremony.
