The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival Goes Year-Round with Monthly Releases Until December

Want to take part in a sky lantern blessing ceremony without the crowds of the Lantern Festival? The New Taipei City Government’s Tourism and Travel Bureau will launch the “Happiness in Shifen ~ Monthly Sky Lantern Release” event from March to December, featuring a total of 10 sessions. Each month, the Shifen Visitor Center will provide 50 free 4TN sky lanterns, allowing the public to experience the warmth of dozens of lanterns soaring into the sky outside of the Lantern Festival.

The monthly sessions are scheduled for March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 19, October 10, November 10, and December 8. Check-in time for each session is 4:00 PM. To get to the Shifen Visitor Center, you can purchase the “Pingxi One-Day Pass” (NT$52 full fare, NT$28 half fare) at Badu or Ruifang train stations, which allows unlimited rides on the Pingxi trains. For those driving, exit the National Freeway No. 2 at the Shiding Interchange, turn onto County Highway 106 toward Shifen, and enter via the scenic area entrance at Kilometer 68.7 on County Highway 106. By bus, transfer at MRT Beitou Station to Taipei Bus 795 or Taiwan Tourist Shuttle “Muzha to Pingxi” and ride directly to the final stop at the Shifen Visitor Center.
