The French take pride not only in their cuisine but also in their elegant lifestyle. The exhibition "Table Art Selection: French Table Design," currently being held at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts until April 28th, combines French luxury goods and fashion design. Through the arrangement of dining tables, it presents a "French flair" that blends refined sophistication with practical comfort. Ten dining tables in different color tones are paired with ten distinct tableware styles suited to various times and occasions — from brunch and picnics to formal dinners, from literary charm and ethnic styles to French ambiance. These arrangements vividly demonstrate the impressive and captivating table culture of contemporary France.

The tableware exhibited in "Table Art Selection: French Table Design" at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is produced by 23 top French home decor and tableware brands, crafted by 38 seasoned and emerging designers. Time-honored brands such as Baccarat crystal ware, Bernardaud porcelain, Christofle silverware, Saint-Louis glassware, and Hermès tableware have been refined over centuries. Even in the new century, they remain symbols of premium quality living in the eyes of people worldwide. Meanwhile, emerging lifestyle design studios such as Pied de Poule, Tsé & Tsé Associés, and Le Magasin – Centre National d’Art Contemporain de Grenoble, with their innovative materials, humorous concepts, and excellent craftsmanship, have garnered fans from around the globe.
Xie Peini, director of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, noted that when people encounter beautiful aspects of French culture, art, and design masterpieces and find it hard to describe their beauty, they often exclaim with the word “French.” From the 10 exquisitely designed table setups on display, one can also see how precisely, delicately, and appropriately the designers captured aesthetic expression. It also shows how France uses its deep-rooted cultural heritage as a language of communication, extending its cultural roots to all corners of the world, growing endlessly and earning its reputation as a "cultural powerhouse."
Elisabeth Couturier, the curator of this exhibition, shared that the designs of French luxury brand products are created to meet real-life needs. The art of table design touches on various aspects of daily life, including hospitality and etiquette. This exhibition has introduced some new designers with fresh concepts and fun elements, adding more diversity and vibrancy to the overall presentation.
