Southern Taiwan's Premier Art Event: Tainan Art Fair Debuts in March

The Tainan Art Fair will make its grand debut from March 23 to 25, 2013. The second edition of the Tainan Art Fair showcases exceptional works from veteran artists, internationally acclaimed masters, and rising stars. This year, in addition to continuing its high-quality exhibitions and free art lecture events, the fair has also planned an art map that promotes cycling through Tainan’s alleys to explore local culture. It introduces major art spaces and key attractions across Greater Tainan, blending the city’s local artistic essence to launch the concept of “Spring Fun in Tainan – Art For Fun.” With great care, the event aims to create a visually stunning, fun, and exciting Tainan Art Fair experience.

The rich diversity of artworks is one of the hallmarks of the Tainan Art Fair, and this year’s exhibition pieces are no exception in terms of excellence. LIPIN Art will present works by Chen Chin, Taiwan’s first female artist to be selected for the prestigious Teiten Exhibition and whose pieces are considered important collections at both the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Her delicate gouache paintings showcase the unique subtlety of the feminine touch. Changliu Gallery brings works by pioneering painter Yang San-lang, known for his rich brushwork that combines both brushes and palette knives in oil paintings. These veteran artists not only hold significant importance in the development of Taiwanese art but also laid a profound foundation for art collecting in Taiwan—making their works essential pursuits for many collectors. As for overseas contemporary masters, Dynasties Gallery and Weijia Gallery will both showcase works by Yayoi Kusama and Yoshitomo Nara, two of Japan’s top three contemporary artists. The presence of these iconic masterpieces highlights the galleries’ dedication to Tainan’s collectors.

In addition to works by master artists, the creations of young artists are equally eye-catching. Yunqing Art Center presents works by Kao Chao-liang, who incorporates childhood memories of robot toys into his art. Qingshan Art Center features works by Chen [Name Unclear], where metallic textures are strikingly applied to contemporary interior spaces. Local young artists also display bold experimentation in themes and materials, showcasing the diversity and boundary-pushing spirit of new-generation art. Contemporary art, with its market appeal, is also a key focus for collectors.

Additionally, there are free art lectures available for registration, covering various perspectives such as art taxation, art restoration and preservation, art insurance, and sculpture appreciation, providing audiences with deeper insights into art collection and enjoyment. In the warm and pleasant month of March—perfect for spring outings—the Tainan Art Fair has also launched an “Art Map” introducing Tainan’s rich local culture. From well-known traditional shops to newly established design cafes, visitors can experience the warmth of southern Taiwan’s local culture and the vibrant fusion of old and new.
