As March arrives with its warm spring blossoms, the vibrant colors of blooming flowers sweep away the chill of winter. The revitalizing energy of nature brings a succession of flower appreciation events both domestically and abroad. Whether it’s Yangmingshan, Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, Alishan, the Tainan Orchid Exhibition, and the East Coast flower fields in Taitung, or the long-awaited cherry blossom seasons in Japan and Korea, and the tulip-celebrated Keukenhof Flower Exhibition in the Netherlands, travelers are eager to immerse themselves in the stunning floral landscapes.

Easy Access to Domestic Flower Fields
Taipei — Yangmingshan
Yangmingshan, a famous cherry blossom spot in Northern Taiwan, attracts numerous visitors every flowering season. This year’s flower season activities will run until March 17th. On March 9th and 10th, the program includes music performances, tea art shows, glass DIY workshops, and “Flower Dance Bell” events. Meanwhile, the Bamboo Lake Hydrangea Festival at Yangmingshan will kick off on March 22nd. This year’s event plans to create hydrangea landscapes themed around famous love stories from ancient to modern times and across cultures in various farms. Nantou — Sun Moon Lake
The cherry blossom season at Sun Moon Lake’s Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village has ended, making way for the “Purple Love Lavender” series of events at the Shuisilian European Garden, which runs from now until April 7th. Visitors can admire hundreds of thousands of Spanish lavender, winged lavender, sawtooth lavender, and sage around the central Roman fountain in the garden. A “Purple Love” concert is also held once a week on weekends, allowing guests to enjoy beautiful melodies surrounded by purple blooms. For details, visit: www.nine.com.tw/2013sakurafestival.

Chiayi — Alishan
The Alishan Cherry Blossom Season is set to begin on March 15th. Alishan boasts a variety of cherry blossom species, including Okame cherry, Gyoiko cherry, Beni-shidare cherry, and Thousand Islands cherry. The star of the season—and the most abundant—is the Yoshino cherry, a iconic variety that captivates all who see it.
This year, visitors to Alishan can choose from two main flower-viewing routes: one starting from Alishan Hotel, passing through Plum Garden and Alishan Police Station to Zhushan Trailhead, or another starting from Zhaoping Train Station, going through Zhaoping Park, Shouzhen Temple, Tree Spirit Pagoda, and Elephant Trunk Tree back to Alishan Hotel. Additionally, the Chiayi Forest District Office has built an elevated walkway in the Zhaoping Park area, reaching a maximum height of 14 meters. The viewing platform at the end offers a majestic view of Tower Mountain, and from the air, visitors can gaze over the elegant cedar treetops and vast seas of cherry blossoms. The walkway provides unique perspectives of cherry blossoms from both above and below, and is expected to open to visitors before the cherry blossom season. For details, visit: www.ali-nsa.net.

Tainan — Houpi Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition
Held annually in March, the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition is ranked among the world’s top three orchid shows. This year, the Taiwan Orchid Plant Biotechnology Park features key exhibition halls such as the Orchid Pavilion, the Exquisite Display Hall, the Orchid Dream Factory, and the Elegance Hall. Each space showcases large-scale landscape arrangements, individual flower competitions, displays by domestic and international exhibitors, as well as sales of orchids and gardening products. Hotels in Tainan’s jurisdiction have also set up orchid-themed entrance displays, allowing guests to continue enjoying the beauty of orchids upon returning to their accommodations.
Additionally, the Tainan City Government has launched special “March Orchid Exhibition Month” promotions. From now until March 31st, visitors can present their orchid exhibition tickets to receive discounts at fifty local tourism businesses. The exhibition site also offers on-site registration for special orchid tour packages, including a half-day orchid exhibition + half-day Houpi "No Rice, No Problem" cultural tour, and a half-day orchid exhibition + half-day Golden Jade Shrine and West Coast highlights tour.
