Limited Recruitment for the East Coast Century Cycling Challenge

The "2013 Brave the East Coast Cycling Event," organized by the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, will kick off on April 14 at the Jialulan Recreation Area. Online registration is now open until 24:00 on March 31, with plans to recruit 2,000 cyclists to gather together. Through this year's theme, "2013 Brave the East Coast – Ride the Hundred-Mile Wind, Fun Awaits You," participants will enjoy a spring tour of Eastern Taiwan, immersing themselves in the stunning coastal scenery.

This year’s cycling route will primarily follow the East Coast Highway (Provincial Highway 11), divided into two main categories: competition and challenge. The competition category features a 100-kilometer route, further divided into age-group and elite divisions, with prizes ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$2,000. The challenge category includes a 40-kilometer Leisure Group, a 100-kilometer Passion Group, and a 200-kilometer Challenge Group. Registration fees for each group range from NT$400 to NT$1,000. Registered participants will also enjoy services such as shuttle bus pick-up for the railway-bike combo, event T-shirts, activity manuals, souvenirs, refreshments, chip timing, and public liability insurance. At Jialulan, live performances and lucky draws will be held, along with various food stalls offering fresh seafood and indigenous mountain delicacies for visitors to sample.

 

Lin, deputy director of the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration, said that the planned cycling routes of 40 km, 100 km, and 200 km include the following: the 40 km route will pass through Jialulan Recreation Area, Dulan, and Jintun Recreation Area; the 100 km route will also go through Donghe, the old Provincial Highway 8, Chenggong Town, and Sanxiantai Recreation Area; and the 200 km route will additionally cover Zhongyong Tribe, Baxian Cave, and Changhong Bridge.

 

Additionally, the "Third East Coast Travel Enthusiast Event" is back again this year. In addition to regular East Coast National Scenic Area Administration events, this year’s route includes 22 new options such as uploading travel videos and photos, sharing travel experiences, tribal experience activities, and challenge missions. All participants have a chance to win a NT$6,000 prize. The Brave the East Coast Cycling Event is one of the point-earning routes. Simply by registering for the April 14 event, participants can earn high-value prizes and numerous bonuses. Once registered, the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration will automatically input participant data, making it easy to accumulate points. Cyclists can also take the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle East Coast Bus, take a selfie with the event poster inside the bus or holding the ticket package, and upload it to the event website, or share photos and travel notes from the event on the website to earn points.
