2013 Pickled Plum DIY in Spring Jars

To promote ceramic art and cultural creativity, the Yingge Ceramics Museum held a "2013 Spring in a Jar – Pickled Plum" DIY event from March 20 to May 5 in the Ceramic Art Park. Each year, the museum invites different ceramic artists to design jars and incorporates spring produce—green plums—to integrate ceramic art into daily life in a fun and educational way.

The limited-edition "Spring-in-a-Jar" for 2013 was designed by renowned ceramic artist Cao Qiyai. Viewed from above, it features the five petals of a plum blossom, symbolizing resilience; from the side, it resembles a melon, representing abundance. Its verdant glaze, reminiscent of green plums, gives it an appealing look. As plum season falls in spring—a time of renewal and hope—the jar is named "Spring in a Jar." It can be used for pickling plums, and after the plums are ready, the jar can serve as a storage container or even a small stewing pot. The lid doubles as a mini vessel for flower arrangements or planting, making it a multi-purpose, practical, and collectible item. Moreover, this year’s plum jar has been specially enlarged to a capacity of 2 Taiwanese jin (approx. 1.2 kg), allowing pickled plum enthusiasts to enjoy even more sweet, crispy plums from a single experience.
