Early Arrival of Tung Blossoms: Hop on a Colorful Train for a Scenic Blossom Tour in Hakka Villages

This year, the Tung Blossom season has arrived about a month earlier than usual. Currently, the blossoms are already in full bloom in Taitung. By mid-April, areas such as Dongshi in Greater Taichung, Guoxing and Puli in Nantou County are expected to reach peak bloom, followed by Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli regions in late April. The ever-popular “2013 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival” has officially kicked off, with painted Tung Blossom trains and carriages making surprise appearances along the Western Trunk Line before May 12, bringing beautiful surprises to travelers. Additionally, during the April Tung Blossom Festival, shuttle buses will transport visitors to various festival venues, allowing everyone to admire the “April snow” of blooming tung trees and experience the warm hospitality of Hakka villages.

This year, the Council for Hakka Affairs has expanded the Tung Blossom Festival series, with 13 counties and cities across Taiwan, involving 68 townships, districts, and 147 organizations, collectively organizing 2,678 diverse events. In addition to enjoying the romantic “April snow,” visitors can also explore local Hakka industries, arts, music, dance, and other cultural activities, making it the most beautiful Tung Blossom holiday of 2013.
On April 13, the painted train will arrive at Taichung Railway Station, followed by a shuttle to Nantou’s Niuer Art Village. On April 21, it will stop at Miaoli Railway Station, with a shuttle to the Shangri-La Park Tung Blossom Opening Ceremony. By April 27, it heads to Hsinchu Railway Station, offering a shuttle to Beipu Old Street and Emei Lion Mountain Visitor Center. On April 28, it goes to Taoyuan, then shuttles visitors to the Sankeng Bicycle Path and Sankeng Old Street. Each trip departs from Taipei Railway Station, with a limited capacity of 240 passengers. The Council for Hakka Affairs will also prepare mystery gifts for those taking the shuttle buses.
