Once famed across the nation, the luxury restaurant cuisine of Beitou gradually declined as the area’s prosperity faded into history, only to stage a remarkable revival in recent years. This cuisine fuses Japanese, Sichuan, and Cantonese culinary methods, taking luxury to the extreme. Whether it’s the grandeur, knife skills, or presentation, everything is meticulously refined — for example, using food carving techniques to create dragons and phoenixes, or embellishing dishes with floral touches. Ingredients are arranged so exquisitely they resemble paintings, achieving a realm where “there is a painting within the plate, and a plate within the painting.” It’s not just impressive for hosts, but also brings delightful surprises to guests. What was once exclusive to dignitaries and the elite can now be enjoyed by all at the 3rd Taiwan Beitou Restaurant Cuisine Cultural Food Festival, starting May 17th. Numerous restaurants will join forces to offer classic Beitou restaurant dishes, reviving the refined art of presentation with luxurious and dazzling spreads — all at surprisingly affordable prices.

The 2013 Taiwan Beitou Restaurant Cuisine Cultural Food Festival will be grandly held from May 17 to 19 on the south side of Xinbeitou MRT Station in Taipei. Enjoy nostalgic naoke performances and open-air screenings of retro films that take you back in time to the vintage charm of grandma’s era. Zhou Zihhan, the original singer of "Kiss and Tears," will also make a comeback performance.
Restaurant cuisine, once the favorite of the elite, has transformed into a more approachable, people-friendly fare. This event specially invites Huang Dexing, known as the “master of Taiwanese cuisine,” and food expert Liang Youxiang to guide the art of plating these dishes, teaching the public how to turn ordinary ingredients into visually stunning masterpieces through creative presentation. A parent-child creative plating competition will also feature “cute girl” Qiao Qiao and her dad giving a demonstration. To thank consumers, the organizers have invited hotel chefs to prepare refined, small-portioned dishes — each available for just 10 NT coins. What used to require a table booking of 10,000 to 18,000 NT in restaurants can now be enjoyed in its entirety for just 100 NT.
During the 3rd Taiwan Beitou Restaurant Cuisine Cultural Food Festival, the venue will also feature a “Sales Carnival” with hot spring and hotel vendors, as well as a “Cultural Exhibition Area” with traditional folk art stalls such as dragon’s beard candy, candied hawthorn, and cotton candy. There will also be a charity bazaar selling yukata and second-hand goods. On May 18, volunteers will gather to clean up the century-old Beitou Park, and those interested can meet at the event service booth on the south side of Xinbeitou MRT Station before 14:30 that day. In addition, those interested in a guided tour of Beitou culture can join professional guides from the Beitou Cultural Foundation on guided tours on May 18 and 19. Participants should gather at the event service booth on the south side of Xinbeitou MRT Station before 14:30.
