A Must-See for Snow Fans: Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route Opens in Japan

The well-known Japanese tourist attraction “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route,” familiar to many Japan travel enthusiasts, has finished snow removal and officially opened on April 16th. This “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route,” which becomes a popular sightseeing path every April, connects Toyama Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture in Japan. Once the snow is cleared around mid-April, it is declared “open,” allowing the entire route to reopen to traffic. The 37-kilometer stretch of white snowy road is truly breathtaking.

 

At the same time, within this route at an altitude of 2,450 meters lies Murodo-daira, which boasts one of the world’s largest accumulations of snow with drifts reaching up to 20 meters. After snow removal, there is a particularly spectacular 500-meter-long section known as the Snow Valley (also called the Great Snow Valley). Visitors can get off here to take a walk and experience the feeling of being surrounded by the towering snow walls of the great snow valley. The “Tateyama Snow Valley Stroll” event also kicked off on April 16th and runs until June 10th. As you stroll, you can admire the white snow walls towering over 10 meters high on both sides, and the magnificent scenery is filled with a romantic atmosphere of a silver-white snow world.
