The 2013 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival opens on May 4th with free admission in the morning

The “2013 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival” will be grandly held at Fulong Beach from May 4 to June 30. On the opening day, May 4, visitors can enter the venue for free before 12:00 noon. This year’s Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival has specially invited over 20 internationally renowned “sand artists” from 16 countries including Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Spain, Ireland, and Canada to Taiwan for an international invitational competition. They are currently creating their works on Fulong Beach, and about 10 sand sculptures themed around childhood memories have already been completed. These include Japanese master sand sculptor Hirohiko Hosaka, who has participated in the event for four consecutive years, creating a traditional Japanese kite; Dutch female sand sculptor Marjon Katerberg, who depicts the memory of riding a bicycle with her brother in her childhood through her sand art; and Canadian Jonathan Bouchard, who presents a unique scene of building a snowman in the northern country.

Each work in the “2013 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival” reflects the childhood memories of the sand sculptors from various countries. A total of 77 sand sculpture pieces—both domestic and international—will be displayed this year, marking the largest number and scale in the festival’s history. This includes 20 international competition pieces, 25 international creation showcase pieces, 20 domestic competition pieces, and 12 domestic creation showcase pieces, offering an abundance that will surely delight visitors this year. For instance, themes such as the blockbuster hit movie “David Loman” which surpassed 100 million NTD at the box office during the recent Spring Festival, world-renowned director Ang Lee—who just won four Oscars for his film “Life of Pi”—and global sensation PSY, famous for his viral horse-riding dance, will all serve as inspiration for sand sculptors, appearing on Fulong Beach as tributes to the originals. This summer, Fulong Beach will not only feature sun-kissed beauties in bikinis, but also 77 sand sculptures that will dazzle and amaze visitors.

During the event period, “Furama Resort Fulong” is also offering a special “Come for the Sand Sculpture Art Festival” accommodation package. In May (Sunday to Friday), a deluxe double room is priced at 4,299 NTD and a deluxe quadruple room at 5,899 NTD; in June (Sunday to Thursday), a deluxe double room is 5,699 NTD and a deluxe quadruple room 7,899 NTD.
