Top spots to enjoy tung blossoms – Shangri-La Amusement Park tickets now on discount

Taiwan’s time-honored amusement park, Shangri-La Amusement Park, is currently in full bloom with tung flowers. The park has launched the “May Snow, Tung Blossom Festival” event, offering not only discounted tickets but also special accommodation deals. The park boasts abundant natural scenery and still retains well-maintained facilities such as a merry-go-round, bumper boats, and a miniature railway train, carrying joyful memories for everyone.

Shangri-La Amusement Park has reignited interest in this classic, story-rich old-school park with new visual art. It recreates the obstacle course from the popular TV show "百战百胜" ("Invincible") using Taiwan’s largest 3D landscape optical illusion. Taiwanese emerging 3D landscape artist Ash Chen (陳彥旭) was invited to create the installation at the site beneath the park’s iconic European-style fountain. A millennial born in the 1980s, Ash initially conceived the idea based on the obstacle challenge theme from the show, and employed 3D optical illusion techniques to craft a massive 42-meter-long by 8-meter-wide piece titled “Fighter 戰士” (Fighter), the largest 3D landscape artwork in Taiwan. In the artwork, viewers navigate across a log bridge, ropes, cliffs, monsters, and a final boss before reaching the European-style fountain as the triumphant finish line. Unlike traditional viewing angles, standing at the designated photo spot allows one to become fully immersed—just a step in any direction makes it feel as if danger lurks everywhere, creating a thrilling and fun visual experience.

Shangri-La Amusement Park boasts exceptional natural resources. Every spring when the tung blossoms bloom, they attract large crowds of visitors. The park is home to hundreds of species of plants and trees, including precious species like two-needle pine and five-needle pine, as well as cherry blossoms, camellias, and osmanthus that flower in different seasons, making the park a veritable beautiful fairyland. More uniquely, the park has planted 10,000 chinaberry trees, which are a favorite food of the rhinoceros beetle. In summer, it transforms into a paradise for these insects. The park is also home to up to twenty different species of birds, and the chorus of bird calls weaves a wonderful symphony of midsummer. The presence of resident artists has also injected fresh creativity into this classic park. During this spring blossom season, bring your family to Shangri-La to admire the mountainful of tung blossoms and experience the visual impact brought by 3D landscape art. Before the end of May, the park is also offering discounted accommodation packages at Tung Blossom Villa—just two people can book at a special rate of NT$2,350.
