The first-ever Soapbox Race is coming to Taiwan – creative racers wanted now!

Who says speed is the only key to winning a race? The world’s most unconventional racing event—Red Bull Soapbox Race—emphasizes wild creativity in DIY car design. This engine-free, gravity-powered race will make its Taiwan debut this autumn. Entries are now open and will be accepted until June 30. Teams must consist of four members, all aged 16 or older, though the driver must be at least 18. Winning teams may win a surprise trip to a Formula racing event in Macau.

Since its debut in Brussels, Belgium in 2000, Red Bull has held over 80 Soapbox Races in locations such as Australia, South Africa, Jamaica, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, and Hong Kong. Past race car designs have included pianos, giant doll strollers, cowboy clowns, oversized corn cobs, jail cells, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Judging criteria include finish time, car design creativity, and entertainment value—with bold costumes, exciting opening acts, and original music often helping teams steal the show.

Registered teams must submit their online application and a soapbox car design blueprint (which may include a video) by June 30 to complete the registration process. Selected teams will be announced in mid-July, after which they will have two months to build their dream cars and showcase their masterpieces on race day.
