JR Hokkaido Railway Academy free courses teach you how to explore

Summer is the peak tourist season in Hokkaido, where the Furano region in Central Hokkaido boasts purple lavender fields and flower gardens that look like rainbow carpets, together showcasing the romantic summer scenery unique to the northern land. To make it more convenient for flower-viewing tourists, the Furano Tourism Association has specially launched a limited-edition sightseeing bus, the KURURU, available in summer, which takes you to the main attractions and flower fields. The JR Hokkaido Expert Group’s Railway Academy will commence courses on June 15 at the Hoth Hall of the Taichung Shinsei Training Center and on June 16 at the Eslite Bookstore Xinyi Store in Taipei, generously sharing insider tips for traveling in Hokkaido.

Starting from the beginner class that introduces the basics of railways, you’ll learn how to navigate Hokkaido’s transportation system and use great-value tickets to easily explore the northern land. Once you complete the course, even beginners won’t be afraid to take on independent travel. The advanced class provides detailed guides to an abundance of food and flower viewing strategies, plus exclusive insider information not known by locals. Both events are completely free, no registration required, just line up on-site on the day. Each session has 200 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis until full.
