Felix the Cat Fun Tour at Clear Lake: Kaohsiung Hot Air Balloon Carnival Launches in Color

A hot air balloon event in southern Taiwan kicks off at Clear Lake in Kaohsiung. The “2013 Kaohsiung Take Off – Urban Hot Air Balloon Carnival,” held from now until August 11 at Chuanxizhai of Clear Lake, features four major firsts, including hot air balloons ascending over the lakeside to offer panoramic views of Clear Lake, a waterborne light projection show featuring hot air balloons, a Walk-In exploration experience, and an urban-style hot air balloon setup. These offerings provide the public with an exceptional opportunity to view the beautiful lake scenery from high above. On Saturdays and Sundays during the event, free shuttle buses will also be available, running between Laogong Yule Park and the main gate of Clear Lake, making it convenient for visitors to enjoy this unique aerial lake experience.

This is the first time a hot air balloon event has been held by a lake in Taiwan. Spanning 37 days, the event invites hot air balloons and professional pilots from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Slovenia to take the public airborne. Hot air balloon tethered rides are divided into two sessions: the morning session runs from 06:30 to 08:30, and the afternoon session from 17:00 to 19:00. Each ride lasts 5 minutes and costs NT$500 per person. The newly introduced U.S. hot air balloon WALK IN exploration tour takes place during the morning session from 09:00 to 11:00 and the afternoon session from 14:00 to 16:00, allowing visitors to step directly inside the balloon to explore its internal structure and discover the secrets of flight.

The waterborne light projection show is held every Saturday from 19:30 to 19:45. The event venue also offers a series of exciting activities, such as flight performances and displays. These include special-shaped kites operated by professional teams and aerobatic stunts performed by remote-controlled gliders soaring through the sky. There will also be an exhibition of unmanned aerial vehicles curated by the Aerospace Science and Technology Research Institute of National Cheng Kung University and the Advanced Power Systems Research Center. The surrounding area features themed exhibits such as the World Ice Cream Carnival, a hot air balloon cultural and creative pavilion, a hot air balloon history museum, a joyful balloon pavilion, a Chinese and Western food street, a farmers’ market with specialty product sales, souvenirs, a family fun castle, and a 3D motion flight cinema, providing fun for all ages within the hot air balloon amusement park.

 

Visitors are reminded that the hot air balloon tethered ride activity is subject to weather and wind speed conditions. If the wind speed exceeds level three, the on-site announcement and posted notices will inform the public of any suspension of the ride activity.
