Nantou Train Festival Draws Crowds with Popular Train Conductors

The Nantou Train Festival, running until August 11, not only offers free rides on heritage steam trains but also features this year’s popular conductors and hot air balloon activities that are super eye-catching. Last weekend’s child idol superstar—the Bee Sister—had kids going wild, while this week’s popular conductor will be taken over by the winner of the Sweet Goddess Group, the sunny and energetic Yangguang Tingting. Additionally, the hot air balloon tethered ride experience, which was postponed last weekend due to bad weather, will be held on August 3. Those who won tickets on July 26 can present their stubs to ride, and the organizers may offer additional rides on-site depending on weather conditions.

The popular conductor voting event, held alongside the free steam train rides, selected two fan-favorite conductors through online voting—one beloved by children and the other by a more general audience. They are the children’s TV queen Bee Sister and the internet sensation, the energetic Elephant Young Girl—Yangguang Tingting. Bee Sister made her first appearance last Sunday aboard the DT668 steam train from Zhuoshui Station to Checheng Station in the afternoon. Along the way, she taught children about train safety, served as a ticket inspector, checked random cabins, and interacted closely with the young passengers. This Sunday’s popular conductor will be the winner of the Sweet Goddess Group, Yangguang Tingting, who will take on the role aboard the C and D class steam trains. Visitors who haven’t reserved a spot but still want to catch a glimpse of their idol can try their luck at the station before the train departs by donating receipts totaling at least NT$500 in purchases made within Nantou County during the event period to possibly secure a standby seat.

 

As for the weekly “Spend NT$1,000 to Win a Free Hot Air Balloon Tethered Ride” event, last weekend’s rides were postponed to this Saturday from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM due to bad weather. Those who won tickets on July 26 can present their stubs to ride, while those who won this Friday will ride as originally scheduled at 2:00 PM on August 3 at Jiji Elementary School.
