Lover's Rain × Symphony: Dadaocheng Music Fireworks Festival 8/10 for Romance

The 9th edition of Taipei’s Dadaocheng Fireworks Festival will take place on August 10, the weekend before Qixi Festival, in Dadaocheng. This year’s event features “music” as its central theme, with the word “Music” added to the official name, now called the “2013 Taipei Dadaocheng Music Fireworks Festival,” aiming to deliver a double sensory impact of sight and sound. For this year’s edition, a secondary stage has been specially set up at the venue, and the Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra’s Wind Orchestra has been invited to perform live music to accompany the fireworks, elevating “music” from a supporting role to the main attraction. The melodies blend with the bursts of fireworks, filling Dadaocheng’s summer nights with a symphony of happiness.

The grand finale of the event, the fireworks show, will be launched from 8:30 PM to 8:50 PM, featuring 20 minutes of dazzling pyrotechnics accompanied by live performances from the Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra’s Wind Orchestra. It kicks off with a five-minute waterfall of fireworks over Zhongxiao Bridge, with the music presented through a collaboration between EDM and classical genres, performed jointly by a DJ and the wind orchestra—offering the audience a chance to “see” the exciting clash of electronic and classical sounds. The musical pieces performed in sequence with the fireworks include the graceful ballet piece “Bacchanale,” a Dadaocheng classic “Looking Forward to the Spring Wind” adapted from a famous composition by Deng Yu-xian, the Irish dance tune “Lord of the Dance,” the majestic “Carmina Burana,” and the climactic closer “Galliard,” among others. A variety of musical styles accompany equally romantic fireworks, illuminating Taipei’s night sky and the hearts of couples.

 

The Tourism and Travel Bureau noted that the colors and effects of the fireworks have been specially selected to match the theme of this year’s event, featuring special-effect fireworks that create Z-shaped, C-shaped, W-shaped, and fan-shaped patterns in sync with the music’s rhythm. In addition, the 2012 Japanese Fireworks Association’s Lover’s Choice champion, the most romantic “Lover's Rain” (also known as Golden Rain) fireworks, will light up Taipei’s night sky in a shower of golden sparks. Other highlights include water missiles, custom-made 3T large bouquet fireworks, and a variety of rising-tail fireworks. The ever-popular Zhongxiao Bridge fireworks will also feature multicolored elements this year, and in renewed collaboration with New Taipei City, the display will extend to the Sanchong end, presenting a colorful waterfall for all to enjoy.

 

Starting at 4:30 PM on the day of the event, there will be vendor booths at the activity site near Gate 3. From 6:00 PM onward, different musical performance groups will take turns performing on the main stage (near Gate 4). First up is the Latin band “Soy la ley.” As one of the few bands in Taiwan that carries on the tradition of Cuban music, Soy la ley will bring the charm of Cuba to the public with their rhythmically diverse Latin tunes. Next, DJ Bai Le, winner of the Best EDM Single at the 2nd Golden Indie Music Awards, will energize the crowd with EDM fused with dynamic Hip Hop. Finally, the jazz ensemble “Dorian” will reinterpret well-known classics such as “South of the Border” (the theme song from the movie Cape No. 7), “Night Fragrance,” and other timeless romantic jazz songs in their own jazzy style, offering audiences a taste of various musical genres in one night.

 

In addition, the Tourism and Travel Bureau has partnered with Taipei City’s Xiahai City God Temple to distribute giveaways at the event, including “Xiahai City God Temple Bookmarks” and “Heart-Shaped Glow Necklaces.” Both types of giveaways will be distributed starting at 6:00 PM at separate booths, while supplies last. The Tourism Bureau reminds those wishing to receive the “Xiahai City God Temple Bookmark” that they must join hands with another person and say the secret password to claim the item.
