Taiwan’s earliest temple dedicated to a deity king, the 350-year-old “Puzi Temple Weiling King Chi Fu Qian Sui of Fucheng,” has hosted a creative lantern exhibition for five consecutive years. From late January to February 12 this year, the entire street is adorned with countless lanterns, shining brilliantly in a dazzling display that looks stunning both day and night.

This year marks the fifth edition of the Puzi Temple Lantern Exhibition, which is bigger than previous years. The street is decorated with 1,500 lanterns, along with a grand central piece themed around the Year of the Rooster — the “Colorful Phoenix.” The sight is truly spectacular. The lanterns come from a lantern design competition organized by the temple, inviting schools to participate. Each lantern showcases students’ creativity, bursting with colors that create a vibrant scene and attracting many tourists from out of town.

Initially, only schools from the Tainan area participated, but as the event gained popularity, schools from Kaohsiung, Yilan, Taipei, and other regions also joined in. With around 1,500 lanterns filling the sky, the view is truly breathtaking, making this “Lantern Street” seem almost endless. Consider planning an early trip to Tainan before Valentine’s Day to experience the unique “romantic charm of Fucheng.”
