Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival: A Culinary Showdown of North and South Masters

The “2013 Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival” has officially kicked off and will successively launch a series of activities starting September 1, including the “Meet the Beef Noodles” essay competition, “National Noodle Tasting” joint marketing promotions, the “Chef’s Championship,” and the “International Celebrity Chefs Invitational.” The festival will culminate on November 9–10 at the Taipei Yuanshan Flower Expo Park with the “Nine Bulls Galloping Grand Festival Carnival,” treating citizens to a rich and flavorful beef noodle feast.

This year’s beef noodle festival emphasizes both “literary and martial” aspects as well as “local and international” flavors. The Taipei City Government has launched three major competitions at once—the “Meet the Beef Noodles” essay competition, the “Chef’s Championship,” and the “International Celebrity Chefs Invitational”—with total prize money (and prizes) exceeding NT$400,000. The preliminary rounds will also, for the first time, hold regional selections in both the “South” and the “North” to scout talent. The “Southern Preliminary” will be held on October 5–6 at Taiwan Shoufu University in Tainan, while the “Northern Preliminary” will take place on October 19–20 at Taipei Kainan Industrial and Commercial School. The finals are scheduled for November 9–10 at Taipei’s Yuanshan Flower Expo Park.
To spread the aroma of beef noodles across Taiwan, the Taipei City Government plans to launch the “National Noodle Tasting” promotion campaign in October, linking up beef noodle vendors nationwide and selected bus operators for cross-industry, cross-county promotional activities.
