Taiwanese tea is renowned both domestically and internationally, with distinct fragrances that vary by region and variety. Beyond its delicious taste, the terraced fields and leisure farms where tea is grown have become popular spots for modern-day travelers to slow down and breathe in the fresh scent of tea. In the mountainous areas of New Taipei and Taipei, aside from the well-known tourist attraction Maokong, there are many other worthwhile tea farms to visit. Here, you can not only enjoy freshly brewed tea but also take in the stunning views of high-altitude tea terraces.

New Taipei Shiding

Located near Tan Yao on the Beiyi Highway in Shiding District, New Taipei City, the area known as the “Thousand Island Lake of Taiwan” refers to the waters upstream of the Feitsui Reservoir. Due to the terrain, the water winds between the hills, creating a rare and picturesque landscape. Beyond the captivating scenery of mountains and lakes, this is also an important tea-producing region. Lush terraced fields are clearly visible on the mountainsides, and you can even venture into the tea farms for a closer look — you might even catch tea farmers harvesting tea leaves in action.

New Taipei Sanxia

Following the County Highway 109 toward Zhulü Road in Sanxia District, New Taipei City, and navigating through numerous twists, turns, and uphill climbs, you’ll arrive at Xiongkong Tea Farm — an organic tea plantation cultivated using natural farming methods. The tea trees here are grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, preserving the original mountain forest ecosystem. In addition to vast tea fields and century-old tea trees, the farm also grows a variety of plants such as cherry blossoms, peach trees, plum trees, Taiwan cypress, bamboo groves, and maple forests. Outside the farm, the cedar-lined hydrophilic trail features tall, straight cedar trees paired with the soothing sound of flowing streams. Sit on the provided wooden benches and fully immerse yourself in the tranquility of a forest bath.

Taipei Muzha

Located in the mountainous Muzha area of Taipei, Maokong is the city’s most famous tea tourism destination. The area boasts numerous teahouses, lush green tea fields, and mountain views during the day, making it a great spot for hiking. After dusk, the teahouses light up their lanterns and colorful bulbs, offering a completely different ambiance. Tea enthusiasts can quietly brew tea, chat, and admire the night scenery, while groups of friends often gather here for lively meetups, adding vibrancy to Maokong’s mountain tea farms.
