International Fireworks Display Contest
Since 1988, the Macau Tourism Board has invited renowned fireworks companies from around the world to participate in an annual fireworks competition. The displays take place over the waters of Nam Van Lake, making them clearly visible from almost any viewing spot. The most popular spot to enjoy the show is the Chapel of St. Paul’s at Mount St. Paul’s, which is closest to Nam Van Lake and situated at a high elevation—thus a favorite among visitors.

Macau International Music Festival
Launched in 1987, the “Macau International Music Festival” features a different musical theme each year, including opera, symphony, Chinese folk music, jazz, ballet, and more. It’s considered one of Asia’s premier music events. In addition to the stellar line-up, the choice of performance venues is also remarkable. To create a more vibrant atmosphere, organizers arrange performances at historic outdoor landmarks such as the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Lou Lim Ieoc Garden, the Church of St. Dominic, and the Dom Pedro V Theatre—all of which have been highly praised in previous years. The Macau government invests heavily in the International Music Festival to ensure everyone can enjoy high-caliber musical performances, so ticket prices are very affordable, with many shows even offered free of charge.
