Extra shuttle buses and dedicated lanes added to handle Yellow Duck weekend crowds

The Yellow Duck’s charm has swept across domestic and international audiences, with cumulative visitor numbers exceeding 700,000 in just one week since its debut on September 19. To effectively alleviate traffic around Glory Pier, additional free shuttle buses running every 5 minutes will be deployed starting September 28 and 29 from Exit 1 of the MRT Central Park Station, service hours will be extended until 23:00, and a dedicated public transport lane will be set up along both inner lanes of Youth Second Road (from Zhonghua Fourth Road to Haibin Road).

To facilitate convenient viewing for both domestic and international tourists, the Kaohsiung City Government has prioritized increasing the frequency of free shuttle buses from Exit 1 of MRT Central Park Station on September 28 and 29. Service begins at 10:30 AM from Central Park Station, with the last departure at 11:00 PM from Glory Pier, running every 5 minutes. A “public transport dedicated lane” will be established along both inner lanes of Youth Second Road (from Zhonghua Fourth Road to Haibin Road), restricted to buses, shuttle buses, taxis, coaches, and emergency vehicles during control periods. Additionally, left turns by private cars will be prohibited at intersections including Zhonghua Road, Wenwu Street, Ziqiang Road, Chenggong Road, Yongming Street, Yongping Road, and Haibin Road along the controlled route. Chen Jin-fu stated that if the dedicated lane proves effective, it will likely be implemented on weekends, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the Yellow Duck event period, and the public is advised to adjust their routes in advance.

 

Due to limited parking near Glory Pier, visitors are encouraged to park at seven major MRT transfer parking lots: R4 Kaohsiung International Airport Station, R13 Aozihdi Station, R16 Zuoying Station, R21 Metropolitan Park Station, R24 Nangangshan Station, O4 City Council Station (former site), and OT1 Daliao Station, then take the MRT and transfer to shuttle buses to reach Glory Pier. For city buses, passengers can take Red 18 to Glory Pier Station, or use Bus Routes 0 South, 0 North, 11, 25, 33, Wufu Trunk Line (50), Circular 168, 76, 77, and 214 to get off at Kaohsiung Girls’ High School Station, then walk about 5 minutes to Glory Pier. For motorcycles, in addition to the existing roadside parking along Haibin Road (from Youth Road to Ling’an Road) on the southbound lane, temporary motorcycle parking spaces have been added along both sides of Sanduo Fifth Road (from Ling’an Road to Yongtai Road).

 

Elastic traffic control will be enforced on roads around Glory Pier from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM on weekdays, and from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM on weekends. The controlled area spans east to Chenggong First Road (excluding), west to Haibin Road (including), south to Youth Second Road (excluding), and north to Wufu Third Road (excluding). Except for buses, shuttle buses, and accessible taxis, all other vehicles are prohibited within the controlled zone, with adjustments made flexibly based on real-time traffic conditions.
