The ultra-cute "Yuan Zai" gets its name, baby ID card to be issued on 10/26

The online voting campaign "Choose the Best Name Together" for the giant panda cub, jointly organized by the Taipei City Government's Department of Information and Tourism and the Taipei Zoo, ended on the evening of October 15. Over 75,000 members of the public participated in the vote. As expected, "Yuan Zai" received the highest number of votes, garnering over 45,000 votes, accounting for more than 60% of the total, making it the most popular and adorable vote-getter. The remaining names were ranked in order as "Yuan Bao," "Yuan Zai Hua," "Fen Yuan," "Tuanyuan," and "Tang Yuan."

The Department of Information and Tourism stated that since the "Choose the Best Name Together" campaign for the giant panda cub opened for online voting on September 14, it has attracted many members of the public to vote online daily. Additionally, during the campaign, two rounds of gratitude gifts were given away: 50 VIP tickets for priority visits to see the giant panda cub and 370 hot spring and spa vouchers worth a total of over NT$100,000, which further boosted the voting enthusiasm. In just one month of the voting period, over 75,000 people participated. Although the result was as expected—with "Yuan Zai" receiving the highest number of votes, accounting for over 60% of the total—the vote count fluctuated dramatically throughout the campaign. The most thrilling moment came in the final stage when "Yuan Bao" surpassed "Yuan Zai" in daily votes for 10 consecutive days. In the end, "Yuan Bao" came in second place but still garnered over 30% of the votes. The other names also each received support from thousands of voters, ranking in order as "Yuan Zai Hua," "Fen Yuan," "Tuanyuan," and "Tang Yuan."

 

The Department of Information and Tourism stated that the prize draw for this voting campaign will take place before October 26. Winners will be contacted as soon as the draw is completed, and prizes will be sent out promptly. Meanwhile, the zoo is also planning to issue a baby ID card for the giant panda cub during its anniversary celebration on October 26.
