Yilan is a wonderful place full of warmth and blessed with stunning natural scenery. Traveling here by car often allows only a cursory glance, missing the essence of a relaxed and enjoyable journey. Only by "walking" can you freely stroll through the town’s streets, alleys, fields, forests, and countryside. Following the 《Yilan Self-Guided Stroll》, you might have unexpected chats with locals, try their recommended must-eat menu items to sample local snacks and delicacies, learn work skills from local experts and share their survival know-how, or exchange life experiences and listen to the resilience and endless possibilities of life. Through leisurely strolls, your trip will be more than just eating, drinking, playing, and shopping—it will offer deeper feelings and insights.

Food is an indispensable part of any journey, and especially when it's a local favorite, it can greatly enrich the experience. When visiting Toucheng, don’t miss the local delicacy beloved by the locals—Toucheng First-Class Bowl | Jun? Leaving the county, in the area with modern infrastructure, there is still a strong traditional flavor. The taste is incredibly rich. Why is it so delicious? It turns out that the chefs are all experienced locals, and the method is passed down from their grandmothers. The dishes here are all made using recipes handed down through generations.

Wandering through the old alleys is the best way to feel the details of local life. At this time, you might want to head to Yilan City, which is like a kind and learned elder, moving at its own slow pace, calmly walking through the lanes of time. A writer once described Yilan City in these words: “Yilan is not as bustling as Luodong or Jiaoxi, it’s more like a slow-talking scholar, not good at dressing up or engaging in lofty discussions...” This simple charm inspires travelers to pack their bags and slowly visit this culturally rich and graceful place known as Jiuxiongting.

A love for nature is never just a passing trend, but a heartfelt desire to embrace it. By encountering the local mountains and streams, you discover the purest beauty through your five senses. Arriving at the circular Jiadong Linmei Shiban Trail, after passing the mid-section’s Shiban Waterfall, you walk into a forest surrounded by greenery, with penholder trees, maple trees, and scattered ferns on both sides—completely different from the earlier mountain and water scenery. At the end of the trail, a cluster of slender, emerald-green bamboo trees partially hides the path ahead, making you feel as if this refreshing mini journey will continue forever.

Staying in a homestay with foreign flair is one of the fastest ways to leave the familiarity of home behind. The only Nordic-style homestay in the Luodong area, with simple lines, looks like a rolled-up cloud from the side—so the owners simply named it “Natural Curl.” Natural Curl Homestay has a huge courtyard and ecological pond, reflecting the house’s image. Each room has oversized floor-to-ceiling windows, flooding the space with light. If you stay on the first floor, opening the windows leads directly to the greenery by the pond, and the expansive view might make you think you’ve arrived in the European countryside.
