The Yellow Duck is confirmed not to be inflated before the weekend — Hofman: Don’t force the duck’s display

After experiencing explosions and sudden deflation incidents, the organizers of the Taoyuan Land Art Festival have assessed that due to poor weather conditions from today through Friday, the safety of the Yellow Duck is the top priority. It has been decided that the duck will not be inflated and launched into the water. The earliest it could happen is Saturday (November 9), when a decision will be made based on the day’s weather conditions on whether to bring the Yellow Duck back to the pond.

The Taoyuan Land Art Festival runs until this Sunday (November 10). The Yellow Duck, which experienced an explosion on November 1 and a sudden deflation on November 4, is confirmed not to be launched into the water from today through Friday. The organizers will prioritize the duck’s safety, closely monitoring wind and weather conditions on-site in coordination with the Central Weather Bureau and the meteorological team from National Central University, before making further decisions and taking action. If weather conditions allow, it is not ruled out that the duck could return to the pond before the festival concludes.

 

Father of the Duck, Florentijn Hofman, also called the organizers yesterday (5th), stating that the original design concept of the duck was for it to float peacefully on calm waters. Understanding the recent strong northeastern monsoon conditions in Xinzhuang District, Hofman said that, based on safety considerations, the duck should not be displayed under duress. In addition, Hofman expressed hope that Taoyuan might choose a more suitable season and environment in the future to display his duck artwork again. The organizers stated that after the conclusion of this Land Square Art Festival, they will further promote this idea to bring the duck back to the ponds of Taoyuan for another exhibition, giving those who missed seeing the duck’s cute form a chance to view the artwork.
