2014 Holiday Travel Guide: Plan Ahead Early

 

The Directorate-General of Personnel Administration has released the calendar for the year 103 (2014), which includes a total of 114 days off — comprising six consecutive days off during the Lunar New Year holiday and five three-day long weekends formed around various festivals. These can be well utilized for trip planning.

The Lunar New Year holiday falls from January 30 to February 4 (with January 30 being New Year’s Eve), totaling six days off. Other holidays such as Peace Memorial Day (228), Children’s and Youth’s Day on April 4, Dragon Boat Festival on June 2, Mid-Autumn Festival on September 8, and National Day on October 10 all fall on a Friday or Monday, allowing for the creation of five three-day long weekends.

 

January 1 (New Year’s Day) falls on a Wednesday, so office workers can arrange to take Thursday and Friday off to create a five-day break. Labor Day on May 1 (Thursday) allows for taking Friday off to form a four-day weekend. In addition, important festive dates include Valentine’s Day on February 14 (Friday), which also coincides with the Lantern Festival; Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine’s Day) on August 2 (Saturday); Mother’s Day on May 10 (Sunday); Father’s Day on August 8 (Friday); Christmas Eve on December 24 (Wednesday); and New Year’s Eve on December 31 (Wednesday). Travel enthusiasts who also value these festive occasions may want to plan their holidays and trips early.
