Keelung's Yellow Rubber Duck Welcomes Christmas with a 360-Degree Spin into the New Year

The Yellow Rubber Duck, which created a huge stir in Kaohsiung and Taoyuan, is set to "swim" to Keelung on December 21, with its exhibition period extended to February 8, 2014 — a total of 50 days. It will spend Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and the Lunar New Year holiday with duck fans in Keelung.

Fan Kechin, the chief planner of the event, said that the Keelung Yellow Rubber Duck features five major exhibition areas. The 18-meter-tall Yellow Rubber Duck located right in the center of Ocean Plaza has one more innovative feature than those in other cities worldwide — a specially customized 360-degree rotating floating platform. This makes the Keelung Yellow Rubber Duck uniquely stand out like a spinning music box. From any angle, visitors can have the chance to come face to face with the Yellow Rubber Duck and experience its charming appeal. There is also a “Duck Fans’ Energy Gathering” activity where the rotation angle of the duck is determined by the most popular area.

 

In addition, to allow duck fans to explore Keelung with ease, a “Yellow Rubber Duck Sightseeing Passport” has been specially issued. One passport integrates information on the Yellow Rubber Duck exhibition areas, transportation details, and a comprehensive guide to Keelung’s food, drinks, entertainment, and fun. It also includes discount coupons from over 140 local Keelung businesses. For just NT$50, you can get a sightseeing passport worth over NT$5,000. The first 100,000 passports also come with a Yellow Rubber Duck commemorative bracelet produced in collaboration with Richi Riste Information and 100 Duck Points, which can be redeemed online for various limited-edition Yellow Rubber Duck merchandise and 7net discount vouchers, among other perks.

 

During the exhibition period, the event is expected to draw large crowds and heavy traffic. Due to limited parking in the city center, duck fans are advised to use public transportation such as trains and buses to avoid the hassle of traffic jams and difficulty finding parking.
