【Saturday Cinema】Hour of Reckoning Draws Inspiration from Real Hurricane Katrina Event; Paul Walker Stars Without Pay

A six-year-old girl named Maddy, born in New York, must adjust to life after her parents’ divorce. With each parent moving on to new partners, she is required to rotate living between their homes every ten days. Both houses are lovely, but Maddy longs for something she never says out loud. Standing just 119 cm tall, Maddy sees the world through her eyes and expresses the complexities of adult life in her innocent voice.

In "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," Prince Thorin Oakenshield leads a company of fifteen—including the wizard Gandalf and the hobbit Bilbo Baggins—on a perilous journey back to their homeland: the Lonely Mountain. They vow to reclaim the land and treasure stolen by the dragon Smaug. But Thranduil, the elven king who has long been at odds with Thorin, surprisingly offers assistance. What is his motive? As the expedition nears the Lonely Mountain, they are stopped by Bard the Bowman, who believes they have no right to return and warns that Thorin will only awaken the slumbering dragon, bringing greater disaster. Tensions rise sharply. Meanwhile, Legolas and the elven warrior Tauriel find themselves falling in love, though King Thranduil disapproves of their relationship. As orcs launch a massive invasion of Middle-earth, an epic battle between good and evil ensues. Humans, elves, and the expedition must set aside their differences to face the coming fight. Meanwhile, Bilbo, who sneaked into the dragon’s treasure hoard, is discovered by Smaug. How will he escape the clutches of the terrifying dragon?

As extreme climate anomalies worsen, the entire Earth is blanketed in snow. A train carrying the last survivors of humanity speeds toward an unknown destination. But inside the train, two vastly different lives exist: the impoverished and starving at the tail section, and the elite enjoying endless luxuries and even scarce drugs in the front cars.

 

After 17 years on the run, rebel leader Curtis (played by Chris Evans) decides to fight for the survival rights of the tail section. He plans to stage a riot to seize control of the engine room—the lifeblood of the train—controlled by the mysterious and brutal dictator (played by Ed Harris). First, he must rescue Namgoong Minsu (played by Song Kang-ho), the imprisoned keyholder who designed the train. But Namgoong demands drugs for himself and his daughter in exchange for each car they successfully take over.

 

However, the plan becomes even more perilous due to unexpected twists. How will they handle these unforeseen crises...
