【Thursday Art Appreciation】Guo Shixuan’s Sri Lanka Travel Photography Exhibition: Witnessing Genuine, Kind, and Beautiful Smiles

How long has it been since you’ve seen a truly genuine smile, one that shows a full row of white teeth? “Guo Shixuan Lumi Kuo Travel Photography Solo Exhibition – Smiling Sri Lanka” will be on display at Taipei A8 Café from January 7 to January 26, with an opening sharing session scheduled for 2:00 PM on January 11. Through Guo Shixuan’s lens, the public is invited to embrace the smiles of a post-tsunami island nation and to experience the beauty of a land where faiths coexist in harmony.

Leaving her job, giving up a high income, and casting aside her title as a TV program director—Guo Shixuan was 40 years old that year. As a woman, she adventured through Central and South America for 62 days and thought she had recharged enough to return to Taiwan. But as she looked at her backpack, she decided to set off once again, this time boarding a flight to Sri Lanka.

Skilled at using imagery to tell stories, Guo Shixuan divided the photography exhibition into six major themes, covering simple trust between people, the diligent traces of making a living on the island, the harmonious coexistence of faiths, uniquely distinctive vehicles, resilient smiles after surviving disasters, and the vanished mystery of ancient cities.

“One thousand photos represent one thousand emotions. Though they may not fully convey all my feelings, I hope more people can get to know Sri Lanka through these images!” Guo Shixuan said with a smile.
