Taiwan’s cub Yuan Zai is melting hearts, drawing attention from Japanese and U.S. media

The giant panda cub “Yuan Zai,” who officially met the public on Monday, not only attracted nearly 10,000 visitors on the first day but also sparked a craze in Taiwanese media and among the public that made headlines on international news websites, including CNN in the United States, Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun, and Asahi Shimbun. Among them, CNN provided a detailed explanation of the meanings behind the names “Yuan Zai,” “Tuan Tuan,” and “Yuan Yuan,” helping foreign tourists learn more about Taiwan’s current most popular healing mascot.

According to Taipei Zoo, on the first day Yuan Zai met the public, by around 9:00 a.m. when the zoo was about to open, there were already over a thousand people waiting at the entrance. By the time the zoo closed at 4:00 p.m., approximately 9,563 visitors had entered, and every Yuan Zai fan got to see the adorable cub in person.
