Over 80% of cherry blossoms have bloomed in Lugu Xiaobantian — time to enjoy cherry blossom viewing in Nantou

The 2013 Nantou Flower Carnival runs from now until February 2 (the third day of the Lunar New Year). This year’s main venue is designed by Tai Yih Eco-Leisure Farm, featuring five themed exhibition areas across its vast grounds. Additionally, the biggest highlight of the Nantou Flower Carnival is the sequential blooming of flowers across the county and the natural flower-viewing spots scattered throughout its various townships. From the end of the year to after the Lunar New Year, characteristic flowers in each area — including plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, and peonies — will bloom in succession. As the weather changes, there will always be vibrant flowers across Nantou worth visiting. After the Lunar New Year, the Taiwan Lantern Festival will also be held in Zhongxing New Village. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the flowers by day and lanterns by night in Nantou.

 

This period also marks the peak blooming season for cherry blossoms. The 3,000 Somei Yoshino cherry trees at Chiding Farm have not yet fully bloomed due to weather conditions, with only a few trees flowering. Meanwhile, Shima Park in Lugu Xiaobantian, home to around 300 Kawazu-zakura cherry trees — one of the newer attractions in recent years — is currently about 80% in bloom.
