Taiwanese tourism and food have frequently appeared on the CNN Travel website recently, and this time, Taiwan's delicious snacks have once again become the focus. In CNN GO's special report "45 Must-Try Taiwanese Foods," 45 popular Taiwanese snacks are listed. Aside from braised pork rice, beef noodle soup, and oyster omelet taking the top three spots, milkfish, iron eggs, and pineapple cake also rank in the top 10. Meanwhile, Wu Pao-Chun bread, bento boxes, and chicken wing rice rolls make their first appearances on the list.

The article states that Taiwan’s food philosophy is to eat a lot and eat well. Therefore, “snacks” are a serious “matter” in Taiwan. Getting too caught up in debating which local dish is the tastiest might even harm relationships.

As for the delicious snacks featured in the report, the first place goes to braised pork rice—made with marbled pork cubes simmered in spices and soy sauce, then poured over steaming white rice, making it irresistible. The second place is beef noodle soup, found all over Taiwan. Especially memorable are the chewy noodles paired with a rich, savory broth and tender, springy beef. This dish is so beloved it even has its own “Beef Noodle Festival,” which left a deep impression on CNN reporters (the third place, oyster omelet, is a Taiwanese specialty made with oysters and eggs, topped with a uniquely flavored sauce, skillfully combining the treasures of the sea with the gifts of the land). The 4th to 10th spots include pearl milk tea, milkfish, danzai noodles, pan-fried pork buns, gua bao, iron eggs, and pineapple cake. Other entries include taiyaki, rice balls, oyster vermicelli, stinky tofu, shaved ice, herbal spare ribs, stuffed intestine, a-gei, fried chicken steak, along with first-time selections like Wu Pao-Chun bread and bento boxes. Surprisingly, century egg—once ranked No. 1 on CNN’s "World's Most Disgusting Foods" list—also appears at No. 38 as century egg tofu, while pig’s blood cake—rated No. 1 on the British travel site "VirtualTourist.com" for the world’s weirdest foods—ranks 31st.
