【Stay in a Homestay on Tuesday】AHome, a space of endless imagination

Located in Jiufen’s mountain town, A-HOME carries the metaphor of “A Old Home” or “Arts Home.” Moved by the overly commercialized homestays in Jiufen, Yong Ge and Mei Jie transformed their ancestral home, creating a borderless and unrestrained thinking space.

A-HOME features a seamlessly collaborative management model where the woman manages the interior and the man handles the exterior. The male owner, Yong Ge, is responsible for collecting building materials, planning, supervising construction, managing the building process, and conveying urban-rural culture. Meanwhile, the female owner, Mei Jie, applies artistic touches to the indoor and outdoor spaces of A-HOME and personally prepares delicate French breakfasts. The couple spent three years collecting materials and planning the exterior design, and nine months completing the renovation of the ancestral home. Though it may not be a grand work of art, for this middle-aged couple who returned to their hometown, this meticulously designed private sanctuary is irreplaceable.

A-HOME offers two types of rooms: Feng Lü Ge and Jian Shang Ting. The room name signs are made from natural wood slices. Feng Lü Ge has a European-style home design, with a traditional fireplace that offers a cozy, homey feel. Lounging on a chaise longue, you can imagine yourself as an aristocrat from the Middle Ages. The front and back gardens offer distinct sceneries. Jian Shang Ting reflects the Eastern charm in line with Jiufen’s ambiance. Push open the aged redwood door, and you’ll find a Japanese-style hearth and a lush Japanese-style corridor garden, making you feel as if you’re in Japan. The bathroom boldly features a hinoki wood bathtub, where the aroma of the wood mingles with the steam, driving away the chill of the mountains.

Additionally, the owners have set up a storytelling club in their unmarked seaside coffee bar, providing guests with a space to interact and share experiences. Here, order a comforting cup of coffee, sit on the viewing platform, let your mind drift, spend the whole day daydreaming, or simply gaze at the enchanting evening scenery of Jiufen. Occasionally, you might spot fishing boats with lights dotting the Pacific Ocean, experiencing the charm of this “city of sorrow” throughout the day and night. Yong Ge, who loves nature, is also skilled at storytelling and customizes private travel itineraries for guests, offering a deeply moving travel experience.
