The new landmark of the aerial bike path offers a panoramic view of the Blue Ribbon Waterfront

The embankments along the X] River in Taoyuan’s Nan] area near Jīngguó Road were outdated. When cyclists wanted to cross Jīngguó Second Bridge and Dàkuìxī Bridge, they had to deal with heavy traffic, and there were also breaks in the riverside bike paths. Therefore, the city government carried out water quality improvement in the upper reaches of the X] River and built an S-shaped bike bridge and pathway that reflects the river’s meandering beauty. It not only connects existing pedestrian paths but also offers the joy of cycling in the air, becoming a new landmark along Taoyuan’s waterfront.

The X] River features a water-friendly green corridor. The riverside bike path along the river stretches 21 kilometers in total, but there is a break between Dàkuìxī Bridge and Jīngguó Second Bridge, where cyclists have to push their bikes across the road. This area also sees heavy vehicle traffic, causing inconvenience for many visitors. In response, the city government carried out water purification in the upper reaches of the X] River in the Guishan District and renovated 310 meters of aging embankments from upstream of Jīngguó Second Bridge to downstream of Dàkuìxī Bridge, along with water area enhancements, creating the “Impression Bridge,” a new landmark of the X] River.

The Impression Bridge features a flat S-shape that mirrors the elegant bends of the river. In the future, cyclists passing through this section won’t need to re-enter the roadway, avoiding dangerous competition with vehicles. The bridge includes upstream and downstream ramps totaling 655 meters in length and 4 meters in width, and was completed in 2019.

After completion, the city will evaluate potential locations for YouBike stations and integrate the route with the Taoyuan–Luzhu riverside bike path network. Together with the newly built X] River Impression Bridge, this will make the bike path system more comprehensive. In addition, efforts will be made to increase the connection rate of sewage pipelines among users, reduce pollution in receiving water bodies, thereby improving the living environment and expanding spaces for water-based recreation and leisure activities.
