Discovering Quirky Charm in Xinyi District: 10 Public Artworks & a Stroll Through Sisi South Village

The Xinyi District Office of Taipei City willhost two free guided tour sessions on the afternoons of April 12 and 26 from 14:00 to 16:00, taking participants from the Xinyi District Administrative Center,to deeply explore 10 public art pieces including LOVE Taipei, NUMBERS, Dragon Leaps into the Clouds, Seal, and Infinite Life, then head to Taiwan’s first military dependents' village—Sisi South Village,to experience the blend of artistic and rustic beauty in a fashionable metropolis, and to get to know the local culture of Xinyi District.

 

Established in the 79th year of the Republic of China, Xinyi District is relatively small in area and was established later compared to other districts. However, aside from its numerous political, economic, and commercial landmarks such as Taipei 101, Taipei City Hall, Taipei City Council, and the Xinyi Shopping District, Xinyi District also boasts rich cultural heritage, including Taiwan’s first military dependents' village—Sisi South Village, the performance culture of the Xinyi Shopping District, and the public artworks around it.

 

Located near Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center, Sisi South Village was the first military dependents' village built after the Kuomintang government relocated to Taiwan. It declined as residents gradually moved out, but was designated as a historic building in the year 2000 and has in recent years become a hub for emerging creative industries. On weekends, creative markets gather here, featuring everything from richly brewed hand-poured coffee and elegant handmade leather goods to various cultural and creative trinkets. The unique atmosphere of new creative energy found within old buildings, along with the nostalgic and slow-living vibe preserved from the former military village, attracts many domestic tourists as well as visitors from Japan and Hong Kong.

 

The tours organized by the Xinyi District Office this time will cover public art sites within the Xinyi Planning Area and around Taipei 101, including ten public art pieces: LOVE Taipei, NUMBERS, Starry Moonlight, Dragon Leaps into the Clouds, Urban Symphony, Dialogue between Yin and Yang, Seal, Between Heaven and Earth, Ring of the World, and Infinite Life, as well as a visit to Taiwan’s first military dependents' village—Sisi South Village.Each session accommodates 40 people, requires advance registration, and is completely free.
