After enduring the winter chill, the flowers in Yangmingshan in April, nurtured by recent spring rains and sunshine, are in full bloom. Clivias and amaryllises, with their naturally trumpet-shaped blossoms, are heralding the arrival of spring.

The Clivia, belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family, has sword-shaped leaves that curve outward, with dark green foliage exuding vitality. Its vibrant orange-red flowers bloom brilliantly among the leaves, creating a stunning contrast—truly living up to its name, which means “the noble gentleman among flowers.”

The amaryllis, with its solitary flower stem rising prominently above the foliage, earns its name—which can also be commonly translated as “trumpet flower.” Because its blooms resemble a loudspeaker, its floral meaning is “chatterbox.” With varied shapes and colors, including double-petal varieties, it is especially beloved by the public.

The Flower Trial Center in Yangmingshan, managed by the Taipei City Department of Parks and Recreation, is currently in full bloom. Fragrant native azaleas such as Rhododendron oldhamii, Michelia figo, and Brunfelsia calycina, along with spring flowers like Spathoglottis pubescens and irises, are attracting many butterflies. Families are welcome to visit. As there is no parking available nearby, visitors can take bus routes 260, 303, Red 5, or Royal Bus’ Jinshan Line to get off at the Shanzihou Police Station stop. After a three-minute walk, you’ll arrive at the Flower Trial Center, located right next to a gas station.
