Taiwan High-Speed Rail Launches Love Delivery Initiative to Support Hualien Earthquake Relief

At 23:50 on February 6, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Hualien, causing extensive damage. In line with its corporate social responsibility and humanitarian spirit, Taiwan High-Speed Rail has launched the “Hualien Earthquake Rescue Ride Initiative” starting today.

All disaster relief and medical teams from various counties and cities who wish to assist in the Hualien area may apply for free rides on THSR trains to the Greater Taipei area, enabling quick transfers to the disaster zone to join rescue efforts, save affected residents, and aid in rebuilding homes.

Taiwan High-Speed Rail stated that although it serves as a mass transit system in the western corridor, it has an undeniable duty to assist rescue teams in traveling to the eastern disaster area. By enabling “high-speed love delivery,” the company hopes to work hand-in-hand with the government and devote full effort to relief operations.

Taiwan High-Speed Rail’s “Hualien Earthquake Rescue Ride Initiative” Service Details:

1. Implementation Period: Applications open starting February 7, 2018 (Wednesday) (deadline to be announced separately based on rescue progress).

2. Eligibility: Rescue teams traveling to Hualien to assist in disaster relief (with either the departure or arrival station being Nangang Station, Taipei Station, or Banqiao Station).

3. Application Method:

(1) Rescue teams must submit their application at least one hour before the scheduled departure time to facilitate seat arrangements.

(2) To apply, please call the THSR customer service hotline at 4066-3000 (add 02 for mobile phones), 4266-3000 for Miaoli area, 4666-3000 for Taitung and Kinmen areas, 02-4066-3000 for Matsu area. Customer service is available daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

(3) THSR will confirm the train and seat with the applicant.

(4) The applying representative must present personal identification and group credentials to collect tickets and board.

(5) To ensure travel safety, rescue teams carrying relief supplies must comply with the Taiwan High-Speed Rail “Passenger Transport Contract” regulations.

* Each piece of carry-on luggage must not exceed 150 cm in length, or a combined length, width, and height of 220 cm, with a maximum total weight of 40 kg.

(6) This assistance is provided free of charge by Taiwan High-Speed Rail as part of its humanitarian aid efforts. No compensation will be provided for delays, route changes, or service interruptions.

(7) Due to limited resources, THSR reserves the right to approve or deny applications. Those who do not meet the eligibility criteria but use this service must pay the fare according to regulations.
